Linear Description of the Work
Main Question: “How can the concept of image and border be considered together?”
From the very beginning, our aim was to break the lines of the frame and show where the border really is. “How can the concept of image and border be considered together?” We came up with this question and thought about the project through the different layers. This installation actually consists of many layers like image and sound recorded by ourselves separately. Firstly, we decide the subway location, because we considered a subway station as part of a big subway network. In fact, the metro line can also be seen as the embodied form of border, whole and part concepts in everyday life that we try to create in installation video. We also chose the Golden Horn metro station because it is located on a bridge and bonds the two sides. In other words, the border does not belong to both sides, which again supports the border and frame. After that, we took a photo which is overexposed, So it was not clear where this place belonged. Thus, again the concept of limitlessness is emphasized. Then, as we aimed at the beginning, we created a line by cutting certain parts of this photo. In this line, we see the detail squares of the place and the people. In these frames we have something that creates a sense of "separation" and "recognition". When we look at the video in general, we see people who actually communicate unwittingly with each other. Then we all wrote texts on the effect that the video created on us and recorded these texts with our own voice. So, we placed these sound recordings on the line we created with the photographs. But it is necessary to think of this video as an installation. Because when we look at the video we hear our voices successively and eventually these voices converge. But on the installation there will be three different screens, these images will be constantly repeating and the voices will come from different places constantly. So this 4-minute video can be thought of as a work trying to create the impression of the installation. I also want to remind you that this four minute video consists of 1.5 minute video that repeats on three different screens. So we can think of the white image as the first and the widest as the final image.
