Project 04

The Big Game The Little Game

Emre Can Kaya, Utku Kafalıer

art project

As an installation piece, we want the video to be screened on a table that resembles a chess table. Only two viewers at a time could comfortably observe the video, each sitting across each other. There would be two magnifying glasses attached to each side with a cable, that they can invest the videos more closely.

The screen is to be put on top of the table, being integrated seamlessly.

On top of the screen, there is to be a glass that would protect it as people could be touching the table frequently. One also has to assume they could bring in a coffee from across the street and carelessly spill on top of the table, so it is essential that we have a glass coverage on top of it.

As for the surroundings, the room the installation is to be put in does not matter much. Since the display will be an LCD screen and not a projection, luminosity level of the room does not matter that much.

The display we have chosen is SEG 22SE5500 22'' 56 CM FULL HD SLIM LED TV, which is chosen bearing in mind the market values with the most cost-effective solution.

Overall the entire budget is as follows:

  • Carpenter + materials: 1000 TL (approx.)
  • SEG 22SE5500 22'' 56 CM FULL HD SLIM LED TV: 630 TL
  • Magnifying Glasses: 60 TL
  • Total: 1690 TL

Of course one variable in this calculation is the carpenter solution but that is calculated with an estimated lowest cost consideration. Depending on the budget, that number could go down or up, changing the build quality of the installation. With higher budgets, the installation itself could become an art piece with eye catching beauty, if not, the video would have to attract audience for itself.

As for the making of the video, stock footages from archives with creative licenses are to be used to avoid copyright issues. As this would be a non-profit project, we would be complying with much of the creative common rules and would not be in breach of any legal contract.

We have also planned to use no sound for this video/installation as we could not find any creative reason to do so and overall thought any music/sound would take away from the visual experience itself.
