CONSTRUCTED SPACE is a video art project and at the same time, a non-fiction documentary of the changing urban space of Istanbul, Turkey.

The main video is a composition of multiple video shots from different locations set in Istanbul; with lengths of 1 to 5 minute(s); displayed in a loop.

The video itself, is taking its basis from the map of Istanbul.

The map is and will be disembodied and manipulated by the combination of the different shots as a repre-sentative of the city and reforms the city map by its geographical shape.

In the current process of the video, we are dividing Istanbul’s map into four districts by four videos.

Our purpose, till the exhibition, is to document more places from Istanbul and to increase the number of the videos; there by to divide the map into more districts.

The main data that we are collection from the spaces are "Öte Beri". What are they?

They are the small changes in the city which you may not realize by time; yet on a greater scale they are the key elements for the geographical changes.

As documentation is one of the features of the project, it is important to think the “space” and the “time” as constantly engaged terms. What’s more, it is a reminder that; the project is a documentation of a process.

Currently, as the city is under an ongoing urban transformation, various documents from the transformation and spectrum of chosen subject related to the transformation is required during the process. It is necessary to document the same locations in different times to see the transformation clearly.

Secondly, each video will be divided into layered visuals.

Meaning, the videos that are giving shape to the map, will be possible to be interactively chosen by the spec-tator, and more images concerning the environment will be possible to be seen.

Environment is what the videos are fed from; as Istanbul is the subject of the project.

For the present, the videos are; a building under construction in Taksim Square, ongoing Galataport Project and a reparation in Üsküdar Square displayed on a wave video. As the whole city is under urban transfor-mation, there are more spaces to document and “re-visit” in order to document the tranformation stages through time.

To be more specific; we are targeting the spaces such as; the transformation from rural to urban, demolish-ment, re/constructions; further, the natural and synthetic effects of these processes.
