As the theme of the Project 04, is “Öte Beri” which can be understood as far and yet close things to the subjects. However they are the things that may not necesseraly been recognized.

For us, it is important to look where we are located to be able realize “the other”. What is changing by time?

Is the tree you saw a month ago still there? Has your routine in the city changed by an urban transformation?

As Istanbul is our location, the home; it is a place which; we know the most or we think we do. Yet the city is under a urban transformation. The question is whether we know the city, or realize its change in micro levels.

It is possible to see a change when we compare two images as “before” and “after”. However, is it possible to see the process between these two times? Can “Öte Beri” be found there?

Our intention of the project is to display the transformation of the city by documenting videos from different spaces. The documentation is an ongoing process; dealing with the topic “transformation”, it is very impor-tant to capture scenes from different times and different point of views.

As our concern is Istanbul, the videos will be showcased as a manipulated city map, made from various video documentations. The theory is to create the map by modifying it, as the city is modified by constructions or the demolishment of the long time sustained spaces.

From the beginning, what will be seen is a map of Istanbul created from different videos playing at the same time in a loop.

The videos will be about the concerns about the urban transformation and its effects on the city’s geography.

Each district of the city will be possible to be selected for a more detailed look.

What we are planning is to place a tablet for the spectator to interact with and a main screen which will be projected on a bigger screen by a projector.

Further more, by selecting the visuals, it will be possible to see more details.

The videos that are selected will be linked to a wider range of videos and images related to the space; making them possible to be viewed from different angles and connotations.

As a demo-example from a current video, Galataport Project;

On the main map, there will be one district contructed and represented by Galataport Project.

By selecting the video, a new page of different videos will be available to look.

These selection will include Galataport Project’s change in time and how its change reflects on the coast. Another example, the contruction of a building on Taksim Square;

It is important to state what we are dealing with through the project: Firstly, on this subject, a constructions like these will have to be supervised as “time” and “space”.

One of the concerns is the Time.

As the video has been captured in early January, a scene captured in February and in March will be very dif-ferent from each other.

The second concern is the Space.

The ongoing construction, manipulates its environment.

Eventhough it may be understood as the change of the natural habitat; it can also be seen as the metamor-phosis of the urban space during the constuction.

In other words, the perspective / view from a specific point will be changed. Open spaces may be filled.

The public transformation’s route and the pavements may be under construction as well.

What are the alternative living spaces for the time being and how it is reflect on the citizens?

Will it be Istanbul or somewhere new? Can the memory still be seen through the city or will it make its new one?

BUDGET:

The key instruments for the art work will be a tablet , a projector and elements for their display.
